I'd bet the closure will be announced early next year at the latest. I don't think there's any saving the game. It was the elaborate course of action they took and the curiosity of seeing if they'd actually managed to turn things around which got me to take the chance on it.Ī couple of new things, going F2P and a poorly done steam launch was not enough and all it did was reinforce the game's gloomy future in people's minds. However when I heard about the relaunch I was keen to try it out and I stuck with it for quite a while.

I played FFXIV 1.0 and if that got a big update and went F2P I still wouldn't have checked it out again and it wouldn't have lessened the bad reputation it had.

Just going free doesn't give most people a reason to go back. If they took it down and put one last investment into making major improvements and adding a bunch of new content and then making it F2P at the relaunch as the cherry on the cake it would've gotten a lot more buzz just because of the whole redevelopment process and gotten folks curious to try it out again. Bad or not the game could have a lot more. They should have taken the game down like what happened with FFXIV. Personally I think F2P was a missed opportunity. I still enjoy it and it is my favorite MMO for sure. It was just mishandled in terms of management internally and didn't nail the marketing down. So its community should stop spreading shit as much it does. As a new player seeing this too often will just think it is not worth their time. Lots of players are using the "dead game" meme for years.
The game is not doing too good, but I feel like the community really is hurting it more than they think they do.
The project failed get the market it needed for the investors to re-invest for any other project. It was a new IP, and had investors for it. I would say it had really bad management. There was a massive importance to spend money on it.Īs for Carbine, Wildstar was a massive project for a new company. So it was in their best interest to rescue it. The state of the first version did damage to their biggest IP. In fact, there are many ways to promote a product without spending millions of dollars.įor FF14, Square had a massive IP reputation to think of. In my point of view, the studio has very "poor" knowledge in Marketing. Wildstar is still a cheat game for them, this is the strongest issue. Expansions attract gamers, they talk about it and then start the word of mouth, the F2p was not impacting enough because they have not changed their positioning in gamers' mind. It would have been pertinent to create a expansion for Wildstar in promoting the fact that the game has changed. Neverwinter, not bad mmo, but nothing to compare with Wildstar has attracted many gamers and come up frequently with new updates. It's unbelievable, even Lotro, which is an excellent mmo though, has been keeping a solid (small) playerbase thanks to their F2P model for years, allowing the studio to lunch 5 expansions since the first release in 2007. But I still do not understand why does Carbine studio do not promote Wildstar in an effective manner. That's really true, it's a shame that people do not give a second chance to this game.
